ProgramsSafe Kids Cherokee County focuses on four primary prevention programs. Those programs include Child Passenger Safety, Fire Safety, Water Safety, and Bike-Pedestrian Safety. Child Passenger SafetySafe Kids Cherokee County has certified Child Passenger Safety Technicians that are available to inspect your child's car safety seat free of charge. We have resources available to assist those that need to obtain a child safety seat. We do ask for a small donation from the recipient to be applied toward any seat we distribute. Appointments are necessary to meet with a technician at one of several locations around Cherokee County. It is estimated that more than 70% of children ages 5-14 (27.7 million) ride bicycles. Also, child participation in other wheel-based sports, such as skateboarding and inline skating, has grown exponentially over the last decade Water SafetySafe Kids Cherokee County focuses our water safety efforts around Lake Allatoona . We do this through a partnership with the US Army Corps of Engineers. USACE Park Rangers provides water and boating safety instruction through a unique program called “Ranger Cards”. This program allows Park Rangers to distribute water and boating safety instruction by their personalized trading card with safety information on the back. The trading cards are collected by youth visitors at the lake from various Rangers. When they collect certain amounts the youth can trade them in for prizes. Prizes are beach towels, beach balls, life jackets and more. Rangers also upon request go into the schools and teach water and boating safety in the classrooms. |
